If you are paying the pet sitter "off" the books to avoid the website/app fee, you are then treading in even more dangerous territory even if the sitter claims they have insurance, if they are off the books.then so is their insurance. The app program does offer liability insurance, but it is up to the pet care provider and client to check it is in place. Many of the people advertising to "pet sit" Fido are doing it to make a little extra cash on the side and are not affiliated with any other pet sitting company, many are not pet first aid trained, carry liability insurance, or workers compensation coverage. ![]() While they seem pretty handy to access what one needs for Fido for the day, week, or vacation they are also a bit of a buyer beware situation as well. Other apps similar to this are available throughout the pet sitting industry. Recently in Oakland, California several dogs died in the care of a pet sitter who was found via an app called dog Vacay. When it comes to technology making our lives easier, it is important that one keeps in mind the safety and well being of those things in life we care about and love. Technology often puts things in front of us and makes them available to us at the push of button on the screen, or a tap, or a swipe of an app. Some of it for the better and some of it for the not so much better. The world of pet sitting is evolving much like the rest of the world.
